Sunshine into the Lives of Others: The Inspiring Life Story of Beth L. Tielke

Let’s Begin with Grandmother’s Memories to Her Grandchildren

In memory of Grandma Beth Tielke who passed away two months ago as of this week, I’m going to post semi-monthly excerpts of her writings about her life as one way for her memories to continue to live on. And so we begin with her birth…

Writing excerpt from 2002 found in A Journal of Faith and Love: Grandmother’s Memories to Her Grandchild:

My full maiden name: Beth Loraine Sloan

I was given this name because: Grandma Sloan had read the story of “Little Women” and liked the Beth in it.

My birth date and place of birth: February 10, 1931 – I was born in Ainsworth, Nebraska. Grandma Sloan’s cousin Dr. Wm Lear was the doctor.

What was happening in the world when I was born:

  1. There was a depression.
  2. No electricity
  3. No running water
  4. Grandma & Grandpa had an old car (somewhat like a convertible) […]. 🙂 If we went someplace in the winter – Grandpa had to drain the water out of the radiator so it wouldn’t freeze. […T]he top was only used in the winter to keep it nice longer. –

Upcoming excerpts: “ABOUT MY MOTHER” and “ABOUT MY FATHER“.
